The Evolution
of Blackness
3D- Mapped Virtual Immersive Space
The following is from a project called, The Evolution of Blackness. Using 3D-Mapping software, MaddMapper, I aimed at creating an immersive space that focused the gaze towards what a healed self might look like in a Black Utopia. Pulling from imagery that was used to symbolize the inner child, I paired that with the imagined self/ future self. I then aligned my current self in a collage of images. The work showcases the phases of healing through this quest.
The work challenges an ongoing conversation I have about how the Black body as it continues to be discredited for its contribution and impact in a global society while still being subjected to racial inequity. Using technology as a lens, mapping the Black body is an act of radical healing by granting it value within a technological world that often omits us.
